The Happiest States in America
A survey of 1.3 million people across the country revealed those in sunny, outdoorsy states – such as Hawaii and Louisiana – are the most content.

A fresh report, published in the Friday edition of the journal Science by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, found the happiest folks in the U.S. generally live in states that excel in quality-of-life studies (i.e. local taxes, availability of public land, commuting time).
“We wanted to study whether people’s feelings of satisfaction with their own lives are reliable, that is, whether they match up to reality – of sunshine hours, congestion, air quality, etceteras – in their own state,” Economist Andrew J. Oswald disclosed. “And they do match.”
Louisiana was named the happiest state, followed by Hawaii, Florida, Tennessee and Arizona. The state of New York was deemed the least cheerful.
